As you may be aware, towards the end of September 2023 the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a statement on supply disruptions affecting various strengths of medications for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The shortage of these products is caused by a combination of manufacturing issues and an increased global demand. Other ADHD products remain available but cannot meet excessive increases in demand. The supply disruptions are expected to resolve on various dates between October and December 2023.

The Southover Partnership acknowledge the effects that medication disruption may have on your child, both at school and at home. The Occupational Therapy department has given Southover staff training on how to support your child best at school during this time. Topics have included awareness of the neuroscience of ADHD and the role of medication, as well as strategies for naturally encouraging dopamine production such as increasing physical activity during the day, improving occupational engagement, and managing information processing.

If you have any concerns about the medication shortage with regards your child in the home environment, please email ot@southoverpartnership.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
